Firewall for Vista 64-bit

Postby rockingmtranch » Wed Feb 18, 2009 12:11 am

I was watching the maladies thread and saw this:

"The windows firewall is not sufficient to protect. It doesn't monitor outgoing traffic and this is a must. I use and recommend Online Armor Free"

It doesn't work for Vista 64. Any other suggestions? Or, is the firewall in 64-bit OK?

If you're going to use the built in firewall in Vista I highly recommend Vista Firewall Control by Sphinx (I use it myself) as it enables outbound protection. If you want something more powerful, you can use Comodo, if you don't want the AV component you can opt to only install the firewall during installation.

I don't like the shady deals Comodo has pulled and the general nasty BS they like to do. But that's me. I'm a crabby and opinionated old broad and it just gets worse. :rotf:

They have repeatedly attacked OnlineArmour. One thread at MalwareBytes and a pirate software site led right back to their moderators. Saying MBAM was crap. Stuff like that.

Yuk. I've been using BoClean for a long time now, and now they'll be discontinuing it and it will be integrated into their IS as part of their AV, which I will not trade Kaspersky for, and would use Avira if I needed a freebie. It's funny too, I just recently commented on their forum after finding out about the fate of BoClean that I would end up having to replace it. I wonder if that ruffled their feathers? Here's my post: http://forums.comodo.com/comodo_boclean ... #msg251076 enjoy!! :)

Comodo doesn't take criticism very well at all!

From what I've seen all they know is attack and defend with nothing really factual. I don't think any of the developers take the time to respond to anything and rather they leave it all up to their marketing team who sometimes sound very childish. "I know you are but what am I?" :?

 I agree with you there about the childish bit. They aren't even willing to discuss it really, I do like the developer of BoClean (Kevin) though, he's a cool cat. He was pissed when he found out about it. They didn't even tell him what they were doing, he had to find out on the forums like everybody else. I hope they violated their original agreement with him on this and he's allowed to pull BoClean out of their clutches so we can keep using it. Probably won't happen though, as I'm sure he's probably paid pretty well for what he does for them (and rightfully so).
