Preferred Antivirus Program

Postby grits » Tue Dec 28, 2010 1:15 pm

Dang, after posting in Mix & Mingle over an hour ago was gonna come here to ask opinions on switching from Avast to Microsoft Security Essentials but after reading all the posts I found in "Search for MSE" , it looks like I best go check out Avira. I might be back on this tho'.
What bugs me about Avast is the way it slows down/messes with whatever I might be doing, every time it starts spinning that icon.

see ya later,
grits

i am using Avast Internet Security that i won from a giveaway here
http://www.avast.com/lp-winterquiz.php#tab1 tell the end of Dec.

i very much like Avira Free but had some trouble with a recent update
and some had trouble with SpywareBlaster so i went to Avast Free
them won a license for me and a few for family

Microsoft Security Essentials does good in tests i read about but when
i tryed it it slowed down my pc to much but there is a new version of it
i have not tryed yet

but whatever you do i would not use Avg it has killed peoples computers
like 3 times this year with a bad update that ate some windows files it
should not have

AVG is not recommended on this site at all. Hasn't been for a few years. I like Avira, Avast doesnt run on 64 bit but I have used it on my old PC.

Thank you James for your kind offer but I think I'm safe with plain Avast Free. I don't chat, IM, or do games, and I do have WOT, MBAM, & SpywareBlaster, maybe even more than those -:- . That's something I need to work on, I need to pay more attention to just what I do have as far as this machine goes & then learn how to make it a permanent part of my posts.

Thanks again,
grits

you are very welcome grits

Avast has had a upgread from version 5.0.667 to version 5.1.864
free, pro, and suite and some seem to have trouble with the new
version mostly people with windows 7 and is better to do a
clean install to upgread with win 7

i had some trouble with version 5.0.667 a few times but upgreaded
through the program on windows xp mce sp3 and had no problems yet

so if you upgread look at the avast forums to make sure it is working
ok for you

http://forum.avast.com/

if someone else would like to try Avast IS good tell dec. 2011 let me know

and if it's ok with Jean

Keeping your programs updated is as important as having them installed. I think you are wanting to add what you have for security to your signature? That is all done via the user control panel. It's similar to making a post on the forums but it will appear in every post you make. If you need help start a thread for it and I can do step by step with pictures if needed.

@ James. I don't have any thing to say about what you do with your licenses. I do ask you keep it in PM.
