Feature Highlight: Run Safer

One of Online Armor's most powerful, and often overlooked features.

Security Experts often advise you to run windows logged in as a restricted (or limited) user. When logged in as a limited access user, certain functions (such as installing drivers, or modifying windows settings) are not permitted. This logical approach means that should malware get on to your computer the damage it can do is limited.

However, the problem is that many programs do not work correctly in this mode which means most people (deliberately or unknowingly) run windows as an administrative user at home. Its the classic sacrifice between security and convenience.

Online Armor implements a clever feature called Run Safer which allows individual programs to run in this restricted way, even if you are logged in as an administrator. If the program which you are running in safer mode starts another program, that too will inherit the safer settings.

So, what does this do for you? Programs that connect to the internet Internet Explorer, Instant Messengers, Email programs are targets for hackers to try and get their programs on to your computer either through exploits or trickery. If you set each of these programs to Run Safer (youll see a green border around any Safer programs) then even if these programs try to run the damage they can cause is limited.

Run Safer is available in all versions of Online Armor; You can make a program run safer in Program Guard by selecting it, and choosing advanced options.

To see how to make a program runsafer, you can view a demo video in online help.
