"July" Windows Update KB 951748

Postby W3FSY » Sun Aug 31, 2008 9:36 pm

Poopsi,

You might take a look at this webpage on problems encountered with Windows Update KB 951748

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/ne ... &sloc=&p=1

I had no problems installing the update, but some using ZoneAlarm firewall and a few other firewalls had problems connecting to the internet. I use the Online Armor (Free Version) firewall. I have Windows XP (Internet Explorer v 6.0.2900). I'm not sure if your using XP or Vista though. Online Armor firewall currently does not work with Vista O.S.

McAfee Security Suite (Firewall) is a resource hog like Symantec (Norton) Security Suite. Using Avast or Avira for an anti-virus program along with Online Armor firewall will make your computer much faster loading pages plus they are Free programs.

When doing monthly Windows Updates, it is a good idea to create a restore date and install one update at a time going to "Custom" to get each update. Do one at a time and check to see that you have connectivity to the internet as well as no other problems before going on farther and doing the next update. It may take you a few hours of your time, but it will be time well spent.

-:- Sorry, but I have no clue as to your single and double click problem if you already have double click selected in your Folder Options. That would be where I would go to make sure double click was selected.

After reading more, I see that you do have Windows XP, Poopsi.

For years I use to use eTrust EZ Antivirus with realtime file scanning. I mention this because I had a license that was good till 2011 and it was presenting some (daily updates) problems for me and I hated to part using it. (Customer Service was poor.) Then, McAfee became a partner with eTrust and they wanted to charge an outrageous price offering a security suite to eTrust users, so I got rid of eTrust EZ Antivirus and today I consider it the best move I ever made by going with the (FREE) Avast AV and the (FREE) Online Armor firewall. I had problems using ZoneAlarm firewall as well.

Sometimes holding off making a decision because your software has not expired can prove costly in your computer performance. :spbx:

My Dell is fully updated (Windows Updates, Flash, Java, Adobe Reader 9, etc.)

Are these meant to be in reply to Irene? Should I merge them into her topic?

Sorry, Jean!

Poopsi gave me the impression that she was having trouble with a July Windows Update. Now she mentioned (8) August Window updates also installed and at first glance it looked like a firewall problem when she mentioned KB 951748. (The July update would have nothing to do with single clicking or double clicking to open a folder.) She had mentioned staying connected to the internet, but now there are more problems being found with her OS.

Yeah but this is a whole new thread. That's what has me a bit confused.
