downloading from a Ftp site questions

downloading from a Ftp site questions

hello

how in the heck do i download from a Ftp site i have read about using something like BitTorrent
but is it not like a p2p program and everybody says p2p is bad and not to use p2p then i read that
bittorrent and others like it doin't like my router (Linksys WRT54G) and can brake it

also is downloading from a Ftp site safe i tryed googling about it but all i find is software for it
from not so safe looking sites

is there somewere i can read about it or is there some kind of magic or something about it lol

Usually you can just download. What browser do you use? FF makes an extension called FireFTP. http://fireftp.mozdev.org/

on this pc i'm using iexplorer or opera now firefox 3 it's just that i'm trying to download
some Linux Os to try in virtualbox and a lot of them are from ftp

like i tryed to download openSUSE in iexplorer and it says it can't download something that big
Opera can though but not from ftp

so far i'v tryed Ubuntu,Puppy,DSL,Knoppix,Pclinux just ones i can download from http also i'm trying
vmware player but most of them come in 7zip and the openSUSE one i tryed doin't load right in vmware
player so i doin't know if it was a bad download or TUGZip messed it up opening it

i did a waterpump to get more memory and had my dad take me to get it and he got me a Maxtor one touch
4 mini 320gb external hard drive also (thay were out of the 500gb ones) :rdmd:

so i'v been trying to learn all this stuff now i'v got to learn more with this fireftp thing lol
i try not to ask for help(thank god for google) but i get stuck sometimes

hehe One thing I did think of is you may need a password if it's a private FTP set up. Otherwise it's usually just click on the link of the file you want and save. Maybe a right click and choose "save to".
