uninstalling McAfee

Postby Poopsi » Tue Jan 06, 2009 11:47 am

My subscription with McAfee is expiring in February. Since I am having problems running the Virus Scan. It keeps freezing on me, I thought I would uninstall now and go with another program. First I thought I might have a virus and that is preventing McAfee from running the scan. I have run scans from the Internet and every program I have on my Computer but they found nothing. McAfee has an uninstall tool but I have read about lot's of problems with it. Can someone help me uninstall it or should I take it to a Tech? Irene

McAfee's virus scan keeps stopping at scanning the same file:
c:\windows\Temp\mcu7D\tmp\vso\mcdelta.ini
While looking this up on the internet, I came across several postings which consider this a Virus. Irene

I usually boot into safe mode and run the McAfee uninstaller tool

It's also in your temp files. Empty temp files uninstall the junk McAffee, install Avira from Antivir and follow the instructions for preposting a HJT log. Let's see what you have Irene.

I don't want to violate forum/hjt protocol but McAfee is best uninstalled from safe mode, I have used add/remove programs followed by the uninstaller

The main thing is make sure McAfee is not running

I was usually uninstalling McAfee after a serious infection rendered the computer unusable even for normal removal methods, so safe mode might not be necessary but i would use it anyway
