hello lonelyone

i would at least start with some basic maintenance

1:run some online scans for viruses and or malware for a second opinion

Kaspersky online scanner
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Eset online scanner
http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/index.php

2:check the free space of your hard drive

it should not be to full or you could have trouble defragmenting the hard drive
clean out temporary internet files, cookies, history in the internet options
but note that cookies store website preferences and login information so you would
have to login to all your websites over again

i use ccleaner for cleaning temp files and i use the slim version (no toolbar) and free
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds

there is also ATF cleaner free also for XP and Windows 2000 only
http://www.atribune.org/index.php?optio ... &Itemid=25

3:run a checkdisk

go to start>my computer then right click on the c:drive and pick properties then tools
and under error-checking click check now then put a check in

"automatically fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors"

it will say that the disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs
exclusive access to some windows files on the disk these files can be accessed only by restarting
windows do you want to schedule this disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer
pick yes and restart the computer note that this can take a long time to get done and the pc should
not be turned off while it's running and when done the computer will restart

4:defragment your hard drive

this also can take some time using the windows defragment program but there is also Auslogics Disk Defrag
it is free and alot faster than the windows one
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Auslogics_Dis ... d5266.html

5:stop unecessary programs from startup

some programs have in there settings a way to stop the program from starting if to meany things start at startup
it can slow the computer down and use memory just setting there waiting to run so if you don't need the program
to start you can turn it off

i use winpatrol free for this plus it does other things but i just use it for startups and i do not run it at startup
http://www.winpatrol.com/

i google the programs that i see in the startup part of winpatrol to see if it is safe to stop it at startup because
somethings need to start with the pc

that should get you started

AVG has had some trouble in the past for bad false positives that messed up peoples computers and here is info on there
last one it even ate part of it self

"AVG false positive on legitimate applications causes trouble"
http://www.calendarofupdates.com/update ... opic=22389

other good free antivirus programs

i use Avira Antivir Personal free it has a popup when it updates because it is free and when there is a big update it can
take some time to get it to update
http://www.free-av.com/en/download/download_servers.php

Avast free is also very good
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

i'm not sure about Spybot S&D as i don't use it no more mabe someone else here can help with it

i use Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware

also what other security programs do you use and what web browsers and how much memory does the pc have and do you
use or have used registry cleaners as thay can be bad on your computer also

i'm not the best helper at this but these things i do to my own pc and to help my friends computers and it does make them faster
so it's a start tell someone else comes along

i see you have asked for help also at the Spybot s&d forums

http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=52226

and that you get a notice about "QTCF.dll" but did not say nothing about it here

so i googled QTCF.dll and it looks like it's part of Quicktime and itunes and that other people are having the same
problem after the last update of itunes on 9-10-09

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jsp ... 1&tstart=1

since i do not use itunes i don't think i can help much with that but in the link some have had luck doing a repair on quicktime

so i wish you the best of luck and hope it don't turn in to a pain to fix
